Anguilla removes visa requirements for Guyanese, Colombian nationals

  • by

Anguilla’s Minister of Home Affairs, Kenneth Hodge on Monday announced the country’s decision to remove visa requirements for Guyanese and Colombian nationals.

A press release from the Minister’s office revealed that the decision was made by the Executive Council on June 27, 2024.

“This means that effective immediately, these persons will no longer be required to apply for a visa prior to entering Anguilla,” the release stated.

According to the release, this move aligns with the Government of Anguilla’s commitment “to fostering and strengthening relationships with regional and international counterparts while developing a more sustainable migration policy.”

Further, the removal of these visa requirements marks a significant step towards improving bilateral relations, encouraging tourism, and facilitating business development. Additionally, it aligns Anguilla with the United Kingdom, which removed visa restrictions for nationals of Guyana and Colombia on November 9, 2022.

Meanwhile, Guyana and the British Virgin Islands (BVI) are also in talks to remove visa requirements. These discussions advanced earlier this year in February at the 46th Regular Meeting of CARICOM Heads of Government.

Guyana is also seeking visa-free travel to European Union (EU) countries. In July 2023, President Dr. Irfaan Ali announced that at least five EU countries support Guyana’s bid for Schengen visa-free travel.

Additionally, during a visit last year, Guyana lobbied for visa-free travel to India with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyan Jaishankar. There are also discussions about removing the visa requirement for travel to Canada.
