Reflecting on the service members of the disciplined forces provide to Guyana, President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Saturday night said he wants to ensure that those workers own houses in three years’ time.

The President said this as he gave his address at the 58th Independence Anniversary flag raising ceremony, hosted this year in Linden, Region 10.

According to him, Guyana’s “men and women in uniform” provide a distinguished level of service to Guyana and in helping to guarantee that Guyanese remain safe. As such, they ought to “live in their own secure homes.”

“This is what living in dignity and building prosperity is about,” the Guyanese Head of State said.

An aggressive housing drive for all Guyanese, the President explained, is one of the key focuses of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) government.

In keeping with a promise to provide 50,000 house lots in five years, the President said 30,000 house lots have already been provided. He added that housing units are also being built and new schemes developed across the country.

In Region 10 specifically, Dr. Ali said about $3 billion has been invested in housing developments. That has contributed to the ongoing construction of about 1,000 houses for young professionals.

Throughout his lengthy, passionate address, the President also delved into his government’s plans for the expansion of all productive sectors. He also spoke about how services, be it healthcare or education delivery, will be improved.
