Bartica Businessman Apprehended with Firearm and Suspected Drugs

A 28-year-old businessman hailing from Bartica, Region Seven, found himself in police custody on Monday following his apprehension with a firearm and a stash of suspected amphetamine pills, commonly known as ecstasy.
According to a statement from Police Headquarters, the arrest took place around 14:35 hrs at the Itaballi checkpoint, where vigilant officers were stationed.
The businessman was traveling on an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), the registration of which was unknown. When approached by the officers and asked for his driver’s license and vehicle documents, the man claimed he did not possess any such paperwork.
Upon his consent, a search of his belongings was conducted. Within a haversack discovered during the search, authorities found 40 pills suspected to be amphetamine, along with a firearm identified as a “Springfield Armory USA” pistol. The pistol, bearing serial number US979040, was accompanied by ten 9mm rounds of ammunition stored in the ATV.

After being briefed on the nature of his offenses, the businessman was cautioned and promptly taken into custody. Subsequently, the firearm and suspected drugs were duly marked, sealed, and secured as evidence.
The matter remains under investigation as authorities work to ascertain further details surrounding the incident.
