Collin Obermuller, a 44-year-old businessman, and his wife, 25-year-old Autricsha Alexander, both residents of Lot 53 Third Avenue, Bartica, were formally charged on Monday with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The couple appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohammed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court to answer the charges.
The pair was charged jointly under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act, Chapter 10:10, which prohibits the possession of illegal drugs for trafficking purposes.
Both Obermuller and Alexander pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Mohammed granted bail in the amount of $150,000 each. The case has been adjourned to December 5, 2024, for further proceedings.
This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to tackle narcotics trafficking in the region.
The authorities have yet to disclose the details of the drug seizure.
