Francis Sukoo, a 22-year-old labourer, was on Monday fatally stabbed during an argument which started during a drinking session at Sand Hill, Upper Berbice River in Region Ten.
Police Headquarters, in a statement, said Sukoo, the suspect and a group of friends were liming at a shop at about 17:00 hrs.
The men were reportedly imbibing.
The incident occurred between 17:00hrs and 18:07hrs.
During the argument, Police said Sukoo became annoyed and slapped the suspect in his face several times.
The suspect then left and returned armed with a pair of scissors sometime after. In a fit of rage, the suspect rushed to Sukoo and stabbed him five times about his body.
Sukoo collapsed to the ground and the suspect made good his escape.
He was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said efforts are underway to locate the suspect.
